Comic-Con adventure, day 1: The Travel…oh the travel
Good Lord, comic-con. I have pictures coming soon, I will try to snag some from Melissa since she was a bit more camera happy (and I even had my beloved 50mm 1.4 with me). Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed and I’m not sure I’m getting the shots I wanted and I end up freezing up. Oh well, I have plans for next year, yes, I will be going next year. For a more in depth day by day run down go check out Ash’s blog at http://legsarebroken.blogspot.com, he is a comic-con pro and saw a lot more then I did. Which is not discouraging in the least, I still saw a metric ton of media related goodies, but I spent more time in the exhibition hall then I did in panels and that will be fixed next year.
Starting off, Wednesday, we flew, it felt like all day. We arrived at MCO for our 3:30pm flight right around 2pm and I was feeling good about the trip, until we got inside and saw the 3 busses of brazilians that had just been dropped off at the airport. We waited in a brief line at Continental to check our bags and they jumped us ahead of the line since our flight was in an hour so that we wouldn’t have to get stuck behind the brazilian flying force.
Pro Flying Tip: there is an “expert” security line you can go through. No one gives you instructions, no one points out where the bins are, but it is crazy fast. We were through security in minutes when it would have easily taken a half hour plus, and I would have been sweating bullets.
We take off and have a comfortable flight all the way to Houston for our layover, I watched a little direcTV and all was well.
In Houston I had what was honestly the best airport food I’ve ever eaten. Beef Brisket BBQ with sweet potatoes and beans. It was fantastic. We then adventured around the airport, we had about 3 hours to kill, and smoothly boarded our flight for San Diego.
This time in flight I got to watch Diary of Wimpy Kid. Now this looked entertaining when it was out, but definitely aimed at kids, the thing that made me want to see it the most was this scene:
Where the red headed kid on the right shows the two main characters his new freckle and exclaims “It’s got a hair in it!”.
Thankfully, the movie had a lot more to it then this one scene, as funny as this scene was. It is shot really well and had a lot of humor, definitely kid safe without being to kid only.
Soon after the end of the movie we landed in San Diego, it was now about 10pm, we had been traveling since 2pm East Coast time, we were wiped and ready to hit the proverbial hay. We caught a quick shuttle ride to the hotel, grabbed a beer and some food down in the lobby waiting for Ash and Chrissy, and met an ex-military man who happily shared tales of ridiculousness with us after I shared my interest in all things military and history.
About an hour in, Ash and Chrissy found us and we headed up to the hotel room for some sleep in preparation of our weekend.
